Center, Margarita Rodriguez, St. Rita staff member, is flanked by two of her Bible students in Sonaguera, Honduras.
The Honduran mission at St. Rita was established in direct response to Pope John Paul II's apostolic exhortation "Ecclesia in the Americas" to clergy, religious and lay faithful which outlines his vision for the way of conversion, communion and solidarity of the church in all the Americas.
This mission allows parishioners at St. Rita to live out that part of our parish mission statement which calls us "to witness Christ's Presence in the world and respond to the Gospel message."
In keeping with the mission of St. Rita Parish and the "Ecclesia in the Americas", we have established and are growing a lasting relationship with parishioners at our sister parish Virgen de Los Remedios in Sonaguera, Honduras.
Through this relationship, we are enabling the Holy Spirit to grow in ourselves as well as in our fellow Catholics in Honduras. Pope John Paul II provided a clear direction in the Ecclesia for us to pray and serve each other as we overcome the material and geographic gap between our parishes and cultures and focus on our brotherhood as Catholic Christians. He reminds us that the Catholic Church is one body in Christ and is only as healthy as each of its parts. This effort furthers the health of the Church both in Sonaguera and here.
As this ministry grows, we continue to need more support.
How can you get involved?
First, pray for guidance in this ministry. Pray for our brothers and sisters in Honduras and for fellow
parishioners who are traveling to and from Honduras to serve.
Second, volunteer your time and talents either here in Dallas or in Honduras. You May feel called to serve on a medical and evangelization mission where opportunities exist for doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, pharmacy techs and translators. Even if you are not able to travel to Honduras, you can participate in and support the planning of our activities.
You don't need to speak Spanish to be a part of this ministry!
Lastly, you can help by making a financial contribution towards the programs we continue to develop in Honduras. These opportunities range from the "Adopt-a-Student" program and supporting the Catholic School in Sonaguera to funds for medicine and supplies for the mission.
Thank you for your consideration and your continued prayers for this ministry. You can get involved in this ministry by contacting Honduras Ministry.
