Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick and Homebound bring Communion to those who are not able to attend Mass because of illness or advanced age. They visit homebound parishioners as well as residents of assisted-living centers and patients in hospitals.
Need to learn about setting up a visit for someone, please contact our Director of Pastoral Care at [email protected] or call 214-451-6568.
“And to those who are absent a portion
is sent by the deacons.”
-Saint Justin Martyr (2nd Century)
Thank you for your interest in Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick and Homebound! This is a very special ministry, offering Christ to those on the margins. This is an ancient ministry. Christians have been carrying the Eucharist to their brothers and sisters since the very beginning. It's a powerful service of love that has changed the lives of innumerable brothers and sisters!
Potential new ministers must complete the Pastoral Care Training Program offered periodically at St. Rita and through the diocese. The ministers do not meet weekly or monthly but have quarterly Mornings of Reflection where they come together to reflect on the ministry and support each other with prayer and fellowship.
As a member of this ministry, you can choose to serve our brothers and sisters that may be homebound, may reside in an assisted living facility within our parish; and/or may be patients at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. Serving hospitalized patients requires additional hospital-based training.
