Carmela Couvillon is a collaborative pianist and artist teacher of piano. She started piano at the age of six. Having moved to Dallas when she was ten years old, she benefited growing up in the rich, musical tradition of St. Rita Catholic. Her own high school teacher Mrs. Joan Applewhite played a role in her playing for church. She is a graduate of the St. Rita School and Ursuline Academy of Dallas.
Carmela Couvillon’s professional training has included study at Southern Methodist University where she received a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and was a student of acclaimed American pianist and teacher Dr. Carol Leone, and Italian pianist Alessio Bax. She received a Bachelor of Art in Music degree from Baylor University studying under the tutelage of Professor Jane Abbott-Kirk. She has studied Taubman technique with Sheila Paige, emphasizing the wellness of the hands and piano technique. Mrs. Couvillon currently teaches piano students of all ages. She is the Director of the Lux Mundi Ensemble and the 5 PM Sunday pianist at St. Rita Catholic, Dallas, Texas.
